DiagnosisDiagnosis: The species is characterized by the follow- ing characters: SVL 97.8–168.9 mm, ± equal to TaL; TrunkL 1.6–2.2 times longer than SFlL; lower eyelids scaly; supranasals in contact; frontoparietals 2; fron- toparietals half as long as frontal; nuchals absent or in 1 pair; ear openings without lobules; supralabials 7; scale rows around midbody 36–40; paravertebral scales 78–86; limbs short (SVL/FlL: about 7; SVL/HlL: about 5); subdigital lamellae under fourth toe 11–15 (Smith 1921, 1935; Darevsky & Orlova 1996; pers. observ.) (Geissler et al. 2011) 
Comment 
EtymologyNamed after its stout appearance.
Lygosoma carinatum is derived from Latin carinatus, keeled and is in reference to the keeled dorsal scales of this species.
