DiagnosisDiagnosis: Dorsal scales without keels; dorsal surface of snout with longitudinal concave furrow; frontal narrower than the supraocular; two loreals; no dark spot between parietals and angle of mouth. (Leviton et al. 1992)

CARRANZA et al. (2006) suggested to subdivide the species M. insignitus into M. insignitus fuscus and M. i. insignitus.
