EtymologyThe specific name lateralis (Latin) means “of the side” and apparently alludes to the conspicuous lateral stripes.

The subspecific name euryxanthus is derived from the Greek eury-, meaning wide or broad, and xanthus, yellow, which refers to the wide yellow-orange lateral stripes.
