Distribution: Not in Paraguay, only the former subspecies, now Mesoclemmys vanderhaegei (fide Cacciali et al. 2016).

Habitat: freshwater (rivers, swamps) 
EtymologyNamed after Latin tuberculata, having small swellings; bumps; protuberances; excrescences; tumors. (Luederwaldt 1926, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
