CommentType species: Dryophylax rutilus PRADO 1942: 204 is the type species of the genus Mesotes Jan 1863.

Publication date: Prado published this description twice in two different journals. It seems that the paper in the Mexican journal Ciència was published in 1942 while the paper in the Memorias do Instituto Butantan was published in 1943. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin rutilus, red, golden red, reddish yellow. (PRADO 1942, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
