Distribution	NW Somalia and adjacent parts of Ethiopia Type locality: Haud region at 08°15’N 46°20’E, 2100 feet elevation, Ethiopia-Somali border.

Etymology	Named after Greek paidos (παῖδος, from παῖς), child, juvenile + L. carinatus, keel-like, ridged. ["...con 26 squame a meta tronco e squame mediane del dorsa Iisee negli adulti (tricarenate come nella subspecie laeviceps negli embrioni a termine); tricarenate soltanto nei 2/3 circa posteriori del tronco nei giovani..."].
