DistributionNew Caledonia (Poindimié in the north to Col de Nassirah in south)

Type locality: “Nouvelle-Calédonie” (by implication).  
Reproductionoviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022)

DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): it is distinguished from other genera in the group by a combination of morphological synapomorphies that includes: fusion of the atlantal arches and intercentrum of the first cervical vertebra into a single element; an elongate body with 29 or more presacral vertebrae; phalanges of digits of the forelimbs reduced, with a phalangeal formula of 2.3.4.4.3 or less for the manus (Sadlier, 1990; Bauer & Sadlier, 2000).

The genus Nannoscincus has been identified as a member of the Australasian Eugongylus group of lygosomine skinks (Greer, 1979).

EtymologyNamed after Latin “gracilis”, meaning small or lanky, or gracile.
