Type locality: Forêt Plate (600-700 m elevation), 21° 07’ S, 165° 07’ E

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Nannoscincus humectus can be distinguished from all other members of the genus by the following combination of characters: frontoparietals fused; loreal single; left oviduct lost in females; lower eyelid with a semi-translucent window; ear opening minute; body scales smooth; adult dorsal colour distinctly lighter than lateral; ear opening positioned 3 scales posterior to lower secondary temporal; presacral vertebrae 30-32; phalangeal formula for pes 2.3.4.5.3 (Sadlier et al. 2002: 246).

CommentThe original description was supposed to appear as SADLIER, BAUER & WHITAKER, 2000. However, BAUER & SADLIER’s monograph (2000) was published earlier and therefore has to be considered as original description.

Abundance: Rare. This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyNamed after LAtin “humectus”, for moist, alluding to the habitat.
