Etymologyjowalbinna is the name of the cattle station on which the species was discovered. The common name ‘Quinkan Gecko’ is used because the sandstone escarpments of the Laura region are commonly referred to as the Quinkan region. Quinkans are ancestral spirit people that inhabit the sandstone escarpments in the Laura region (Ang-Gnarra Aboriginal Corporation 1995) and are commonly depicted at rock art sites, including at the type locality.
