Type locality: Sail Rock, Hauraki Gulf.  
TypesHolotype: AIM LH558 (given as AUZ 72 (University of Auckland, Department of Zoology collection) 
CommentConservation: Rare, threatened, or endangered species. 
EtymologyLeiolopisma macgregori was named for William Roy McGregor (8. vii.1894–, the inaugural lecturer in charge of the Zoology Department at the University of Auckland and Joan Robb’s mentor. See Shea 2016: 48 for more biographical details.
