Type locality: 13.1 mi Sw Enriquillo, Pedernales Prov., Dominican Republic (17.7939, -71.3753; 8 m).

EtymologyNamed from the Greek word for "puzzled" (e.g. Greek aporema = doubt, question, perplexity), as the form presented a real puzzle as to their affinities.
