CommentType species: Dipsas betsileana GÜNTHER 1880 is the type species of the genus Parastenophis Domergue, 1995.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.

The genus was named after its similarity to the genus Stenophis (now a synonym of Lycodryas), from Greek παρά (pará = “beyond, beside”).
