DistributionDemocratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), Central African Republic, Uganda, Angola, N Botswana, Zimbabwe, C Mozambique, Republic of South Africa (relict populations in KwaZulu and at Durban, Natal), Tanzania (northern end of Lake Nyasa), Zambia, N Malawi, Rwanda ?, Burundi ?, Namibia

Type locality: "Mpika District, northeastern Rhodesia" (= Zambia).  
Reproductionoviparous.

Habitat: freshwater (Lakes, quiet rivers) 
EtymologyNamed after its occurence in (Southern) Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. Rhodesia was named after British imperialist Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902), a British mining magnate and “ardent believer in British imperialism” (Wikipedia).
