EtymologyNamed after Latin spinalis, anything related to the spine or backbone; also, thorny, spiny. ["...Auch diese Art ist von allen anderen bekannten Arten durch die eigenthümliche Beschaffenheit der Rückenschuppen auf den ersten Blick zu unterscheiden…"].
