CommentTerra typica: Martinique (in error).

The French name is given as “l’Ameiva de Plée” by DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1839, hence the name may be emended to Ameiva pleei, in contrast to the original name which was spelled “Plei”.

Subspecies: Ameiva plei analifera COPE 1869 was listed as synonym of A. pleei in SCHWARTZ & HENDERSON 1988. 
EtymologyP. plei is a patronym honoring August Plée (1786–1825), who collected the type specimens for the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

P. plei analiferus presumably is from the Latin ana- and alifer (alifera, aliferum), from ala (= wing) and -fer (-fera, -ferum) (= who wears), literally = which does not wear wings; the reference is unknown.
