Type locality: 6 miles north of Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico.

EtymologyNamed after Don Jose de la Borda (1699-1778), a Spaniard of French descent. Taylor wrote, "The species is named for Joseph le Borde (or Borda), the fabulously wealthy silver miner of Taxco."
