Type locality: 2.0 km E La Descubierta, Independencia Province, Republica Dominicana.

Diagnosis

Based on mtDNA sequence differences and allopatry WEISS & HEDGES 2007 elevated the (allopatric) subspecies of P. wirshingi to full species status.
