Type locality: Río Grande, 35°24’ S, 70°15’ W, near Peteroa Volcano, Mendoza, Argentina.

CommentThis species belongs to the palluma group (fide LOBO et al. 2010) or the verdugo group.

EtymologyNamed after the Spanish “verdugo”, in reference to the deep black hood of the lizard, reminiscent of a medieval hangman.
