Podarcis cretensis — LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008
DistributionGreece (Crete and satellite islands)

Type locality: (as in Wettstein 1952) Kisamo Kastelli, nordwestliches Kreta. Map legend:
TDWG region - Region according to the TDWG standard, not a precise distribution map.

NOTE: TDWG regions are generated automatically from the text in the distribution field and not in every cases it works well. We are working on it.

Reproductionoviparous
TypesHolotype: NMW, male (Naturhistorisches Museum in Wien) 8272; O. WETTSTEIN leg., 22. IV. 1942, (Tiedemann et al., 1994).
CommentDiagnosis: Differs from P. erhardii in few (<7) and discontinuous supraciliary granules. Differs from P. peloponnesiaca in smaller SVL (see Table 1 in LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008) and a combination of pholidotic characters (fewer femoral pores, fewer subdigital lamellae, and more temporal scales, see Table 3 in LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008).

Note that the tables in LYMBERAKIS et al. 2008 are difficult to read as they do not explain the abbreviations and Figure 2 may also indicate clinal variation; these authors also synonymize many subspecies of P. erhardii with P. cretensis without much justification. The taxonomic conclusions therefore have to be taken with caution.
