DiagnosisDiagnosis: “Hauptcharactere. Beide Gliedmaßenpaare vorhanden; 5-zehig. Keine Praefrontalia und Postfrontalia. Unteres Augenlid schuppig. 22 Schuppen quer um den Leib. Die Hintergliedmaßen, vorwärts gestreckt, reichen nicht bis zur Ohröffnung. Das fünfte Labiale stößt an's Auge. Die Schuppen der Rückenmittellinie nicht größer als die anderen Rückenschuppen” (from TORNIER 1902).

Type species: Scelotes eggeli TORNIER 1902 is the type species of the genus Proscelotes DE WITTE & LAURENT 1943. 
Etymology“Die Art ist zu Ehren des Afrikaforschers, Stabsarzt Dr. Franz Eggel (8 Feb 1867) benannt” (from TORNIER 1902). See link for details.
