Holotype: probably QM J207a, from "Brisbane Suburbs", Qld., fide Covacevich (1971) [Pseudechis mortonensis].

EtymologyThe name guttata is Latin for "spotted" and refers to the numerous dark spots and blotches on the back of the species.
