Comment | Type species: Acanthodactylus mucronatus BLANFORD 1870 is the type species of the genus Pseuderemias BOETTGER 1883: 118 (footnote). Note that Boettger 1883 mentioned Eremias lineolata RÜPPELL 1845 as the “first” (founding?) member of Pseuderemias. Boulenger 1918 mentions mucronatus as type species. Etymology | Named after the Latin nominative singular mucronis, "sharp point," and –atus, "pertaining to", referring to the pointed snout in this species. The genus was named after Greek pseudes (ψευδής), false + Latin Eremias, lizard genus due to Wiegmann, 1834.
