Type locality: Islands of the Torres Strait.  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesType: BMNH 1877.3.3.12 (and possibly additional specimens). 
CommentType species: Thecadactylus australis GÜNTHER 1877: 414 is the type species of the genus Pseudothecadactylus BRONGERSMA 1936: 136 (a nomen novum pro Torresia BRONGERSMA 1934 non Torresia LAPORTE-CASTELNAU 1876, a genus of fish).
