DiagnosisDiagnosis: A middle-sized Ptyodactylus species with a large triangular head, tail shorter than body length; dorsal scales small, granular and mixed with smooth, round and small conical tubercles. No tubercles in front of the head. Tail shorter than snout-vent length, with 4 dark bands and small white spots. No caudal whorl. Snout-vent length 63 mm, tail length 54 mm. Colour of specimens from Ana preserved in formaldehyde: light brown with white spots. The Rutba material is darker and more robust. 
CommentSynonymy after KLUGE 1993, who used both BOUTAN and BOUTON several times although his bibliography lists only papers by BOUTAN. Color image in IN DEN BOSCH (1999). P. puiseuxi and its synonyms have been listed as synonyms of P. hasselquistii by WERMUTH (1965).

EtymologyNamed after Victor Alexandre Puiseux (1820-1883), an astronomer. On graduating (1837) he entered Ecole Normale Superieure, where he was awarded his doctorate (1841).
