Type locality: Egypt (restricted to the relalively mesic environment of Djebel (= Gebel) Elba (22°10’ N 36°20’ E). Restricted to Ghinda, Erythrea by LOVERIDGE 1947 (fide WERMUTH 1965).

Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Ptyodactylus hasselquistii var. togensis TORNIER 1901 has been considered as a synonym of P. ragazzi (e.g. HEIMES 1987) but more recently treated as valid species.

Distribution: not in Israel fide BAR & HAIMOVITCH 2012. Anderson 1898 actually give the type locality as “Eritrea and Shoa”. See map in Trape et al. 2012: 266 (who don’t show this species in Ghana). See map in METALLINOU et al. 2015: 210 (Fig. 1). 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Vincenzo Ragazzi (1856-1929) of the Modena Natural History Society, who explored and collected in Ethiopia. He was a physician and was posted to the Italian research station, Let Marefia, Ethiopia (1884), later serving as its Director for several years.
