Breedlove on 30 November 1971; CAS 163927, a male from San Cristóbal de Las Casas, above and of Rancho Nuevo, 2713 m, obtained by D. E. Breedlove and P. M. Breedlove on 28 July 1980. |

Etymology | “The specific ephitet, kanalchutchan, is an indeclinable word and is a phonetic approximation (guttural stops and pops ignored; accent on last syllable) of one of three names used by the Tzetzal indians for this species. Translations yields “yellow bellied snake” (kanal meaning yellow, chut meaning belly and chan meaning snake. |
