Type locality: near visitors’ center of Parque Nacional El Cusuco (15° 31’ N, 88° 12’ W), 1550 m elevation, Departamento de Cortés, Honduras.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: A member of the Rhadinaea godmani group, as defined by (Myers 1974), that differs from all of its congeners, except R. godmani and R. rogerromani in having 21-21-21 dorsal scale rows. Rhadinaea pegosalyta (Fig. 1) difffers from R. godmani in having red dorsal and ventral surfaces in life (versus dorsal surfaces usually some shade of brown and ventral surfaces always yellow or white and bold dark stripes on scale row five and adjacent upper and lower halves of scale rows four and six and on the vertebral row and adjacent one-third of the paravertebral rows. bold stripes accentuated because of poorly developed supplemental stripes (versus those primary stripes usually narrower and not bold, dark supplementary stripes usually distinct. Rhadinaea pegosalyta differs from R. rogerromani in having the middorsal ground color the same color as the lateral ground color (versus middorsal ground color much darker. poorly developed and broken supplemental stripes (versus stripes on adjacent edges of scale rows eight and nine well developed, continuous), and the sulcus spermaticus bifurcating just below the capitulum (versus sulcus spermaticus bifurcating well below the capitulum (McCranie 2006: 529). 
CommentR. pegosalyta is a member of the R. godmani group. 
EtymologyThe specific name pegosalyta is the transliterated Greek pegos
(strong, solid) and alytos (unbroken, continuous) and alludes to the bold vertebral and lateral stripes of this species.
