Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy that of PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970: 269. The name Coluber macrorhinus has been credited to BOIE by WAGLER, but there seems to be no publication by BOIE describing it.

Distribution: Erroneously reported from Paraguay (fide Cacciali et al. 2016). See map in Nogueira et al. 2019.

Type species: Coluber Lentiginosus SCOPOLI 1785 (1788 fide WALLACH et al. 2014: 647) is the type species of the genus Rhinobothryum WAGLER 1830.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin lentiginosus, lentil-shaped spot; freckle. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)

The genus was named after Greek rhinos (ρύγχος), snout, nose + Greek bothros (βόθρος), pit, hole, trench
