Comment 
EtymologyThe name pulcherrima is derived from the Latin word pulcherrimus (prettiest) and refers to the colorful head and shell markings of the juvenile holotype of this species (given the non-Latinized name ‘‘The Dotted Emys’’ by Gray, 1856).

Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima rogerbarbouri was named after Roger W. Barbour (1919-1993), American biologist and herpetologist. See Ernst 1994 for an obituary.
