Type locality: "Tuchitan, Tehuantepec, Mexico" (=Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico).

perixantha: Mexico (Colima, México); Type locality: 8 km S Tecomán, Colima.  
Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesSyntypes: USNM 45612, 45613, 45614, and ANSP 285, 337, 338, 339, 340, 341; though Cope only noted 4 specimens, numbered 264-67, in the original description.
Holotype: UMMZ 80336 [perixantha]

Comment 
EtymologyThe name rubida is derived from the Latin rubidus meaning reddish and probably refers to the light markings on the skin.

The subspecific name perixantha is derived from the Greek peri meaning around and Greek xanthos meaning yellow and refers to the yellowish marginals.
