| Diagnosis | Diagnosis:-(1) Frontonasal distinctly longer to distinctly shorter than frontal; (2) nasoloreal suture usually absent; (3) supraoculars four, usually none in contact with ciliaries; (4) superciliary series usually complete, 4-6; (5) supralabial-subocular fusion absent; (6) postoculars 2-4, usually three; (7) postparietals two or three, usually three; (8) supratympanic temporals 2-4, usually two or three; (9) genials two or three, usually three, transverse sutures nearly perpendicular with respect to midline of body; (10) dorsals rectangular, juxtaposed, with low rounded keel; (11) longitudinal dorsal scale rows 13-23; (12) transverse dorsal scale rows in males 32-43, in females 33-42; (13) transverse ventral scale rows 19-23; (14) lateral scale rows 0-8, usually 4-8; (15) femoral pores in males 10-14, absent in females; scales between femoral pores in males 0-2; (16) subdigital scales on Toe I 4-6; (17) limbs not overlapping when adpressed against body in adults; (18) anterior cloacal plate scales paired; (19) hemipenis small, capitate; flounces bearing spines, forming two chevrons; distal one-third of sulcus spermaticus forked; (20) dorsum brown with distinct pale dorsolateral stripe above forelimbs and hind limbs. Proctoporus orcesi is unique among Proctoporus in that the hemipenis is relatively small and the distal one-third of the sulcus spermaticus is divided. It can be further distinguished from its congeners by the following characters (condition for P. orcesi in parentheses): P. anatoloros (usually), P. balneator, P. colomaromani, P. columbianus, P. hypostictus, P. labionis, P. luctuosus group, P. meleagris, P. oculatus, P. simoterus, P. unicolor, and P. ventrimaculatus: femoral pores in females present (absent). P. cashcaensis, P. petrorum, P. raneyi, P. stigmatoral, P. unicolor, and P. vespertinus: superciliary series incomplete (complete). P. vietus: dorsal scales rugose (striated/keeled). P. columbianus, P. meleagris, P. simoterus, and P. ventrimaculatus: dorsal scales smooth (striated/keeled).
