Type locality: “India, Affghanistan”; restricted to “India” by SMITH 1935 (fide WERMUTH 1967).

Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Salea horsfieldii GRAY 1845 is the type species of the genus Salea GRAY 1845.

Distribution: Has been erroneously reported from Sri Lanka, but not present there (SOMAWEERA & SOMAWEERA 2009).
