CommentSympatric with T. teguixin and T. merianae (Abe et al. 1992), at least in Goias, Brazil.

Synonymy: Paraphyletic with other Tupinambis forms (see Fitzgerald et al. 1999). FITZGERALD (1999) also noticed that T. duseni and T. rufescens are genetically very similar but morphologically different. PRESCH (1973) concluded that T. duseni was a junior synonym of T. rufescens while PÉRES & COLLI (2004) consider both as distinct species.

Distribution: See map in Oliveira-Drummond et al. 2014: 1552. Probably also in Bolivia (fide LANGSTROTH 2005).

Authorship. This species is also sometimes attributed to LÖNNBERG 1896. We haven’t checked the 1896 paper but the 1910 paper does describe T. duseni as new.

Similar species: T. rufescens.
EtymologyNamed after the collector, Dr. P. Dusén.
