TypesLectotype: BMNH 1946.8.16.55 (formerly 82.8.29.191), Queensland, collected H.M.S. Challenger expedition. Desgination by Wells & Wellington (1985). 
Diagnosis 
CommentMocoa spectabilis DE VIS 1888 has bee synonymized with Saproscincus challengeri (e.g. COGGER 1983) 
Etymologynamed after the ship “Challenger”.
