parvus: N Nuevo León to S San Luis Potosí west of the Sierra Oriental, Coahuila); Type locality: Hills 5 miles west of Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León.

scutulatus: NW San Luis Potosi south along the Sierra Oriental to S Hidalgo. Type locality: 30 miles north of Matehuala, San Luis Potosí.

The subspecies scutulatus was rejected by Auth et al. (2000).

Named after Latin “parvus, -a, -um” = small, referring to the small maximum body length of this species (50 mm). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “parvus, -a, -um” = small.

The Latin scutula, "a small plate," and -atus, "provided with," refers to the perceived smaller scales than in other populations.
