DistributionMyanmar (= Burma), Thailand (south to Nakhon Si Thammarat), Cambodia, Laos ?, S Vietnam

rupicola: Vietnam

Type locality: Plapoo, 6 miles W. of Mt. Mooleyit, Myanmar (= Burma), N. Tenasserim.

TypesSyntypes: BMNH 1946.8.17.89 (formerly 89.3.25.28), Plapoo, Tenasserim, collected L. Fea; MSNG 27853 (2 specimens), Pla Poo, Tenasserim, Burma, collected L. Fea, 1887. The description was based on "several specimens" from Pla Poo. BMNH 1946.8.17.61 (formerly 89.3.25.89), Mt Mooleyit, 1500m, collected L. Fea, is also listed in that collection as a syntype, but has a different locality, and cannot be certainly identified as a syntype.
Holotype: USNM 72284; paratypes: USNM [kohtaoensis]
Holotype: BMNH 1946.8.16.77 [rupicola]
Holotype: ZISP 20006.1, paratypes: ZISP 20006.2–20006.4 [bacboensis]
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A medium-sized, rather robust Scincella, with a robust head (x ratio S-V length/head width less than 7.0; x ratio S-V length/head length less than 5.6) and rather long limbs. Usually the prefrontals form a broad suture. Some small scales between the fifth supralabial and the granules of the lower eyelid. Usually the eye is visible through the supraoculars as a dark area. Thirty two to 38 scales around midbody in mainland specimens. Lateral dark band broken up by whitish spots (Ouboter 1986: 45).

CommentSynonymy mostly after Ouboter (1986). SHEA & GREER 2002 list Scincella rupicola as valid species. The species Livoromica bacboensis was described based on a specimen collected by Darevsky in 1986 (ZISP 20006) in Vietnam, Bac Can Province, village Dong-Luong (= type locality) and listed before as Scincella melanosticta (Darevsky et al., 1986) [V. Bobrov, pers. comm. 9.9.04]
EtymologyNamed after the Greek words melano = black, and Greek stiktos (στικτός), punctured, spotted, although only some specimens appear to have black spots.
