Holotype: MCZ 7966 [schmidti] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Similar to L. laterale but with frontal usually separated from the frontonasal by prefrontals; scales around body more numerous,-twenty-eight to thirty-two rows around middle of body; fewer scales in a longitudinal row on back. Dark lateral band broader and with less definite lower border. (Van Denburgh 1912: 7) 
CommentScincella boettgeri has been considered as synonym of S. modesta (by OUBOTER 198).

Van Denburgh (1912) diagnosed Leiolopisma laterale boettgeri from L. laterale formosensis, as well as from the nominotypical subspecies, on the basis of relative positions of prefrontals, the numbers of scales around the middle and
along the middorsal line of body, and the degree of distinctness in the lower border of the dorso-lateral dark stripe.
