Comment | A small lygosomine skink, from tropical rain forests of southern Vietnam, differs primarily from other Asiatic scincids in having a double rows of subdigital pads. There are presumably associated with its arboreal mode of life. Other scale characters allow placement of the new monotypic genus close to the lygosomine genera Lipinia Gray and Scincella Mittleman (group 1 of Greer, 1974). Synonymy: Paralipinia, with double rows of subdigital lamellae on basal fingers and toes, was synonymized with Scincella by Greer & Shea (2003) based on the secondary temporal scale overlap pattern (lower scale overlapping upper one). NGUYEN et al (2010) consider Paralipinia as a valid genus though. Type species: Paralipinia rara DAREVSKY & ORLOV 1997 is the type species of the genus Paralipinia DAREVSKY & ORLOV 1997. Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. |
Etymology | The species name is derived from the Latin word "rarus", rare. |
