| Types | Holotype: NMZB 12505, adult male, Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe, |
| Diagnosis | Diagnosis: This form differs from S. boulengeri in the presence of two supraciliaries, four suboculars and almost uniform black colouration (brown longitudinal stripes in S. boulengeri). It apparently differs from the poorly known S. acontias in its smaller rostral (20% of head length compared with 33% in S. acontias) and in having only a single supralabial below the eye. It differs from MCZ 52483, the juvenile from Kilwa assigned to S. acontias by Loveridge (1955), in its much shorter interparietal (27.3% of head length compared with 37.5% in MCZ 52843).
