EtymologyNamed after the type locality.

S. a. brevirostratus was named after Latin brevis = short, and Latin rostrum = snout.

S. a. enriquilloensis was named after its type locality near Lake Enriquillo.

S. a. lucioi was named after John C. Lucio, “who accompanied the junior author in Haiti for two successive summers (1978-79) and who contributed greatly to the success of both trips.”
