Etymology | Apparently in allusion to the many spots of the species that may resemble eye spots, from Argivus = of Argos (Latin Argus), the hundred-eyed guardian of Io. S. a. bartschi was named after Paul Bartsch (1871-1960) German-Polish born American zoologist who worked at the Smithsonian (1896-1942). S. a. lewisi was named after C. Bernard Lewis, curator of the Institute of Jamaica, and collector of the type. |
