Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size small (SVL in males to 28 mm, in females to 28 mm); dorsals small, acute, keeled, swollen, imbricate; axilla to groin 26-34; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, cycloid, axilla to groin 25-32; dorsal caudal scales keeled, erected, acute, imbricate, ventral caudal scales cycloid, imbricate, enlarged midventrally; snout rather acuminate, not depressed or decurved; snout scales small, cycloid, fiat, smooth, imbricate; 1 postnasal; 0-1 internasals; upper labials to mideye 3-4 (mode 3); central gular scales smooth; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 42-48; escutcheon small and compact, not extending onto hindlimbs, 4-5 x 8-11. Dorsal pattern somewhat sexually dichromatic; dorsum gray-brown (as preserved), with a pair of broad black transverse bands, only slightly hollowed centrally; head pattern a prominent, dark occipital band and a median extension that mayor may not join a dark median snout line, with a prominent dark line to eye, this W head pattern similar in both sexes (adult males may lack cephalic pattern completely); head pale gray; region between ear-to-ear band and collar flesh-colored; a broad, black collar with a pair of white, pale yellow, or grayish scapular ocelli; a solid dark sacral band; dark caudal bands, the more proximal forming complete caudal rings; caudal interspaces colored similarly to dorsal ground proximally, white distally, tail tip black; venter immaculate white to grayish; iris gray to gray-brown (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 475). |
