CommentGlenn Shea (pers. comm., 16 Apr 2017) has examined the holotype, in which “the lower eyelid (though somewhat damaged) is certainly scaly, lacking a window, the median preanals are enlarged and laterally overlap the lateral preanals, and there are no supranasals, so that would make it (on current taxonomy) a Sphenomorphus”.

Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyNamed after entomologist “cand. phil. René Malaise” (29 September 1892 – 1 July 1978) who brought the specimens from Myanmar to Stockholm.
