CommentSynonymy: partly after de Rooij 1915, Brygoo 1985, and fide G. Shea (pers. comm., 2 May 2012). S. jeudei is a brighly colored juvenile of S. latifasciatus.

Holotype of latifasciatus not listed in ZMB type catalogue of Bauer & Günther 2003. 
EtymologyPresumably from the Latin latus (broad), fascia (band) plus the suffix -atus (provided with), referring to the broad alternating brown and cream bands on the dorsum of the type.
