Type locality: 8 km NE El Angel on road to Tulcán, Provincia Carchi, Ecuador (00° 40’ N, 77° 52’ W)

DiagnosisDiagnosis: TORRES-CARVAJAL 2007. 
CommentMost closely related to S. guentheri (TORRES-CARVAJAL 2006).

Belongs to the clade Boreomegalepis (fide TORRES-CARVAJAL 2006). 
EtymologyNamed after the Paramo del Angel, where the species was found initially. This paramo is considered to be one of the most humid Ecuadorian paramos, and it includes one of the few populations of Espeletia (Asteraceae) in Ecuador (Coello, 1994); Espeletia is endemic to the northern Andes.
