Type locality: road above Monte Seco toward Chorro Blanco, approx. 1.5 km (airline) NE Monte Seco, 1450 m elevation, Río Zaña, Cajamarca, Peru.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: TORRES-CARVAJAL 2007. 
CommentBelongs to the clades Scelotrema and Microphractoides (fide TORRES-CARVAJAL 2006). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin imitator, one who imitates or copies. [“...The specific epithet, imitator (= "mimic" or "imitator"), a Latin noun in apposition refers to the resemblance between this species and S. praeornatus, known from Depto. Junin in central Peru (Amazonian versant)...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
