Type locality: Peru”, restricted to “María Teresa, 19 km on road Oxapampa-Llaupi (10° 42’ 05’’ S, 75° 27’ 22’ W), 1470 m elevation, Departamento Pasco, Peru.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: TORRES-CARVAJAL 2007. 
CommentHas been synonymized previously with Stenocercus crassicaudatus but resurrected by TORRES-CARVAJAL et al. 2005.

Belongs to the clades Scelotrema and Microphractus (fide TORRES-CARVAJAL 2006).

mainly arboreal.

Sympatric with S. boetteri, S. formosus, and S. scapularis (in Pasco). S. variabilis occurs allopatrically at higher elevations (>2500 m) in Junin.
