Type locality: Igarassu (also spelled Iguarassu) forest, Pernambuco, Brazil.

TypesType: BMNH 1946.8.31.65 (and possibly additional specimens). 
Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Stenolepis ridleyi BOULENGER 1887: 640 is the type species of the genus Stenolepis BOULENGER 1887 (or 1888). Castoe et al. (2004) give the year of description as 1888. 
EtymologyNamed after Henry Nicholas Ridley (1855-1956), a British botanist and collector who was working on the island of Fernando de Noronha (1887), when he first reported sightings of Olive Ridley Turtles in Brazil.
