Diagnosis	Diagnosis (genus): characterized by distinct scale arrangements on the posterior of the head, and by scales on the body being separated by scaleless skin (Lalronunga et al. 2021).
Comment	Type species: Stoliczkia khasiensis JERDON 1870 is the type species of the genus Stoliczkia JERDON 1870. Key: for a key to the species of the genus Stoliczkia see Lalronunga et al. 2021. Nomenclature: According to Vogel (Malkmus et al. 2002: 367), the original spelling used by JERDON must be considered proper according to the rules by the Code (ICZN 1985) as it was used twice in the respective volume (once in the description and again in the index) rendering a spelling error unlikely [Art. 32 (c) (ii)]. Furthermore the name Stoliczkaia is preoccupied by Stoliczkaia NEUMAYR, 1875 (Mollusca: Ammonoidea: Lyelliceratidae) and is therefore unavailable. The proper spelling is thus Stoliczkia.
Etymology	Named after the type locality. The genus is named after the Moravian-born Ferdinand Stoliczka (1838–1874). A geologist-natural historian, he was appointed as a palaeontologist with the Geological Survey of India in 1863. Stoliczka collected vertebrates and molluscs from northern India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Myanmar and the Malay Peninsula. He served as the official Naturalist with the Second Mission to Yarkand, in central Asia. A biography and a list of published works and reports by Stoliczka can be found in Kolmaš (1982).
