Commentbelongs to the “Rhadinaea brevirostris group” sensu Myers (1974)

Distribution: reports from Venezuela (Zulia) are in error and based on misidentification of Liophis melanotus lamari (RIVAS 2001). Not confirmed for Guyana (Cole et al. 2013: 534). See map in Nogueira et al. 2019.

Synonymy partly after PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970 (who listed Liophis undulatus as valid species) and DI BERNARDO 1992. This species was placed by Boulenger in the synonymy of Coluber undulatus Wied, but was removed from it again by Shreve.
EtymologyNamed after Latin “brevis, -e” = short and “rostrum” = beak, proboscis, trunk.
