Commentbelongs to the “Rhadinaea brevirostris group” sensu Myers (1974)

Distribution: reports from Venezuela (Zulia) are in error and based on misidentification of Liophis melanotus lamari (RIVAS 2001).

Synonymy partly after PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970 (who listed Liophis undulatus as valid species) and DI BERNARDO 1992. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “brevis, -e” = short and “rostrum” = beak, proboscis, trunk.
